Event Description:
Historian Al Eicher will be sharing his research on the Orphan Trains and the passengers who arrived in Michigan in the mid 1800s. Operated for three-quarters of a century, "Orphan Trains" were used to transport orphans and homeless children from crowded cities in the eastern U.S. to more rural areas in the Midwest as part of a welfare program that preceded the foster care system in America.
